Runous on kulkenut mukana pitkän matkan.

– Tämä on minun kotini Suomessa, toteaa Ahmed Al-Sabaawi ja muistelee, kuinka ensimmäisen kerran kuuli kaupungin nimen: Kajaani.
Ahmed tuli Suomeen turvapaikanhakijana vuonna 2015.

olin matkalla hakemaan vähän ruokaa suurelle perheelleni

Elän maailmassa, jonka ihmisiin en voi luottaa, koska he

muistuttavia olentoja, kasvaisi sinun kauneutesi kaksin- kertaiseksi

Minä kuolen, tarina on päättynyt, hyvästi

Poems and metaphors as interpreters of life and emotions:
”Birds, just like people”

Dreams of a career in pharmacy in Mosul, Iraq, were abandoned as life passed through Syria and Turkey to Kainuu. Poetry has come a long way with me.

– This is my home in Finland, says Ahmad Al-Sabawi, recalling the first time he heard the name of the city: Kajaani.
Ahmаd came to Finland as an asylum seeker in 2015. Like many others, he lost his home and family. Since he was a teenager, poetry has played a big part in Ahmad’s life and has accompanied him through different stages of his life. However, in order to secure his livelihood, he wanted to study for a degree at university.
– Poetry is a way of dealing with emotions,” says Ahmad, adding that writing is his way of expressing the difficult things in life. For him, metaphors and new expressions and perspectives are important.
– That’s what makes a text good, he says. He also points to the example of Dostoyevsky, a writer who long ago wrote in a way that still appeals today.

I wrote not only about myself, but also about my country. People die and no one protects them. That’s why I describe a bird killed by a hunter and the fact that no one judges the hunter. Birds deserve to live and they should be able to take care of their families, Ahmed refers his poem.
Birds, just like people.

Ahmad Al-Sabawi about his poem ”why me???”

Ahmad recalls with a smile how he got to know poetry and writers in Iraq – meeting them was important to him. He says he received a lot of encouragement, especially in the early stages of his writing. Of course, he also remembers that he was not always considered a beginner – especially when his writing became a success. Before leaving Mosul, he published a few poems and gave some interviews locally.

In his poem Why me??? Ahmad deals with feelings of alienation and suffering. He says he had already written it before coming to Finland.
– I wrote not only about myself, but also about my country. People die and no one protects them. That’s why I describe a bird killed by a hunter and the fact that no one judges the hunter. Birds deserve to live and they should be able to take care of their families, Ahmed refers his poem.
– Birds, just like people, he concludes.

Ahmad says that writing has now moved aside – although he says he is working on a novel.
Integration into everyday life in Kainuu, with his studies and work, has been a priority in Ahmad’s life in recent years – and his dream of studying pharmacy has also come back to the fore. Perhaps the time will come to publish again in the future.
– When I’m ready, says Ahmad.

why me???

When the stupid shot from your cowardly gun hit me, I was on my way to fetch a little food for my big family

I am a bird like all birds, flying for several reasons, ones for inhaling air and to have my part of it

And you are a hunter like all hunters, an outlaw for one reason, that is deliberate murder in a number of Isis-like ways

You do not care where my injury is, in the eye! or the heart! or my feelings! it does not matter, it does not matter

All you care about is that I fall in front of you like the misplaced feather of the other bird, the one killed by another crime

But!

Before your eye has time to gaze at me, I fall like rain falls from the top of a large black cloud

Before your hand, tarnished by the smell of gunpowder, carries me away

Before you feel great happiness for my logical death

I want to ask a short but vast question:

why me??

Your precious phone could have rung in that cruel moment, leaving the bullet unshot, and I would have not died

You could have been a few seconds late in the preparation of the offense report, and I could have avoided your ugly mines

I know you are rich, unfeeling, and just in not segregating your victims

It could have been possible that gusts of wind would have incapacitated your microscopic eye

It could have been possible that I would have taken another route, where I would not have encountered as cruel a hand as yours

All this could have been possible! Then the shot would not have been fired and I would not have died

I live in a world of human beings whom I cannot trust, since they are everywhere I go

Whereas in your world, should it contain more of creatures reminding me and my twin, even in the slightest, your beauty would double

The pain gnaws my wings as the morning gnaws the night, despite the presence of millions of guarding stars

People are asleep and calm reigns with its vast scream the moments of the lovers sipping the sounds of heir women

The ambulance driver does not answer the call because he is too busy in his dream that is said to be a simple for the rulers but impossible to take place in reality

The jungle ranger was not there during the execution, maybe he will get a part of me in the end

The sun was a member of the criminal group for not standing in front of your ruthless eyes

The leaves were the first to deceive me for not dropping in front of your feet instead of falling under them

As the pain increased, I began to see death as the bow of a ship, headed for my unarmed, inexperienced coast

My journey of death did not take long, for you are a skilled hunter, who wants to finish the job in the most beautiful way

You are now on your way to take my life away, with no interest in cleaning up the traces of your crime, for there is no law that would judge you

You run toward me, I see your fast feet that are like the feet of a professional thief

You take my soul and finish this story that has been recorded on the tape of time, space (and air) in front of everyone, everyone settles for my death, the judge, the lawyer, the members of the jury, and the public

I die, the story has ended, goodbye
