Kainuu Music Institute offers wide-ranging lessons in classical and contemporary music.

Lessons are available in playing the piano, pop & jazz piano, accordion, guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, kantele, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, drums and percussion, as well as in classical and pop & jazz singing. The institute also has different kinds of children’s and adults’ choirs, bands and orchestras.

Lessons at the Music Institute progress flexibly, led by professional teachers. For the same term fee, you can participate not only in your own music or singing lessons but also in group lessons where you will learn basic music theory and participate in playing and singing together in various compositions. Regular practice at home is an important part of studying at the Music Institute.

The teaching follows the extended syllabus for music within basic education in the arts, which is based on the national core curriculum determined by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

Many of the instruments can be rented in the early stages of the studies, and teachers are happy to guide you in buying an instrument of your own.

The objective of the studies at the Music Institute is to inspire students to study music in a goal-oriented way and develop their musical skills on a long-term basis. The student’s own strengths and interests are the starting point of the studies. The number one goal of the institute is to support students in finding the joy in playing music and singing and to support their learning. You can also acquire the necessary skills and knowledge at the Music Institute to seek advanced studies in music.
