Kajaani is well-known for its high-quality culture; its City Theatre acts as the region’s theatre and Kaukametsä is the centre of the city’s cultural and musical life.

Kajaani offers a wide variety of services and superb shopping experiences, whether you are looking to buy something for a special occasion or for everyday use. Larger supermarkets are located in the city centre or only a few minutes’ drive away, and you can easily walk or cycle to them: you will find them on Kasarminkatu, Kauppapuistikko and in Petäisenniska. Being a convenient, compact size, the city still has plenty of the old-time merchant spirit, while also supplying an abundance of modern trends, not to mention local products.

Kajaani’s city centre boasts a new attraction in the form of the Raatikeskus shopping centre, which was completed in the spring of 2021. Raatikeskus and its architecture maintains Kauppakatu’s traditional look and provides fashion, daily consumer goods, apartments, restaurants and health services.
