Oulujärvi

Kajaani sijaitsee kahden merkittävän matkailualueen, Vuokatin ja Oulujärven välissä.

Oulujärvi, the fourth largest lake in Finland, is an ideal location for spending some time by water’s edge.  In addition to delightfully ample variety of fish, the lake with its beautiful beaches offers the best possible conditions for relaxed beach activities, swimming, boating and, for instance, water skiing.

Manamansalo Island, also called the Pearl of Oulujärvi, lies in the middle of the open lake.

A lot of activities and places to visit can be found also in Vuolijoki which lies by the shore of Oulujärvi and was incorporated to Kajaani in the beginning of 2007.   Places worth a visit include various nature sites, nature reserve in Talaskangas and the bird reservoir in Otanmäki.  Also the homestead museum Riihipiha locates in Vuolijoki. In summer Vuolijoki summer theatre performs excellent plays.
