The oldest building in the town centre is the Town Hall from 1831 that was designed by C. L. Engel's office.
Just beside the Town Hall lies the former police station, which now houses Kajaani Art Museum. A good representative of the Functional style, it was built according to the plans of Eino Pitkänen, a local architect who has designed many impressive buildings in Kajaani.
